BLACK
I was blessed last night to be in the audience for Colman Domingo's, curated, Joe's Pub concert, BLACK. The cast included the superstar talents of , Chester Gregory (Sister Act), Christian Dante White (The Scottsboro Boys) , Julius Thomas III (Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess), and Curtis Wiley (Nat’l Tour of The Lion King) with musical direction from Jon Spurney (Passing Strange).
Dem boys SANG. Talk about acting a fool. Slides started the show announcing the cast with images of Black men and then the text, "Thunderous applause," followed by, "Y'all ain't ready." And we weren't. It turned into a big party with love as a central theme, but reminiscing of slow drag songs, and family reunions played a big part.
"Change is gonna Come," -Curtis Wiley, "Someone to Love," -Chester Gregory killed me, and "Song for you." brought tears to my eyes. Whew!! What a blessing, and Thank you Gentleman, Brothers, all for your performances last night.
